SAMSUNG's Gear S4 could be in for a big change after a new leaked image emerged showing a new logo for the wearable The South Korean technology giant's series of smartwatches has been known under the Gear name since 2014

However, this could be all be about to change Samsung has registered a new logo for a "Galaxy Watch" in South Korea, hinting the latest wearable from the firm could tie itself into the Galaxy line of smartphones closer than ever The technology giant filed documents with the Korean Intellectual Property Office for the logo on June 20 Samsung has already filed for protection over the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Samsung Galaxy Fit names in the US, adding further fuel to a potential smartwatch rebranding A screenshot from the Korean Intellectual Property Office, first seen by GalaxyClub, shows the registered logo that keeps the Galaxy font associated with the S and Note line of smartphones

It is currently unknown whether the revised smartwatch will run on Google's Wear OS software or whether it will continue the trend of using Samsung's proprietary Tizen platform Wear OS was previously known as Android Wear When Samsung initially launched its first smartwatch it ran on Google's software But later the South Korean company rebranded its wearables to "Samsung Gear" and created its Tizen software platform However, another name change could signify the tech firm is planning to use Google's software again for its next watch

Evan Blass, a reliable leaker, had previously declared Samsung employees had been seen wearing the new watch Most notably, he claimed, the devices were running on Google's software He said: β€œSeen on the wrists of Samsung employees: Gear watches running not Tizen, but Wear OS” Samsung is expected to announce a slew of products at the consumer electronics show dubbed IFA in Berlin The event will take place from August 31 to September 5

It is highly likely Samsung will announce new products that could include the Gear S4 or Galaxy Watch Earlier this month SamMobile insisted the Korean Radio Research Agency had certified a wireless charger for the Gear S4, suggesting a launch for the smartwatch could be very soon
