With Amazon Prime Day – and the likelihood of tempting offers on its Echo and Alexa-enabled devices – just a week away, one of its biggest smart home rivals is raising the stakes with offers across its range.
Google Home has cut prices on its range of smart home tech, including savings of just over 50% on its portable Google Home Mini.
You can ask Google's home assistant all sorts of things via the pebble-shaped Mini, from the latest news, weather and traffic updates to translation, calculation and unit conversions.
It's also designed to be compatible with the Chromecast, plus a wide range of smart home tech from the Nest heating system to Phillips Hue lights.
Tesco has the Google Home Mini available in charcoal or candy (aka ‘dark grey or light grey') for a mere £24 instead of £49 – so if you were planning on ordering shopping from them anyway, you should be able to add it to your list. The offer's valid for delivery until Tuesday, July 16.

There are certain minimum order values for home delivery and Click + Collect pickups at Tesco, and further details on how that all works are available here.
A number of other retailers are offering the same discount on the Google Home Mini. John Lewis offers it in charcoal or chalk (again, basically ‘dark grey or light grey'), for £24.
It includes a 2-year guarantee, with 2-year accidental damage cover available for an extra £10.
Meanwhile, Very also prices the Mini at £24 with three choices of colour scheme – dark grey/black, light grey/white or coral.

It offers the option to pay monthly (subject to status, and full details on how that works are here). Also, it has a 3-year protection guarantee available for an additional £4.99.
Finally, AO also price-matches its competitors with a £24 deal on the Google Home Mini.
It's also running a promotion where you can save up to £34 on adding a Phillips Hue starter kit to a Google Home purchase, and the bundle discount also applies when you combine a Hue purchase with Alexa products, too.
AO directs customers to “simply add both products to basket and use discount code provided” on checkout.
Very also offers an additional 3-year protection plan for £9.99.
Meanwhile, the Google Home Hub with Google Assistant – which includes a 7″ screen that can dim to match the brightness in your room – is reduced from £119 to £79.
You can use it to view your Google Photos, watch videos and even keep reminders displayed on the screen.
Finally, the Google Home Max with Google Assistant has a £100 discount at the moment, down from £299 to £199.
The Max boasts twin 4.5″ woofers for bass and custom tweeters for high notes. Google also says it “uses machine learning to automatically adjust the equaliser settings to match the acoustics of your room”. Very clever.
You can use it with Bluetooth, WiFi or an aux cable (so you could connect it to a record player, for example).
John Lewis also offers 2 years' accidental damage cover for an additional £15, while Very offers 3 years' protection for £34.99.
